Village Agents help older people in rural areas connect with the communities that they live in.
Rural North Somerset is an attractive place to live and for the most part, relatively affluent. However, the population is growing, particularly amongst the older age groups. Over the last ten years, the number of people over 75 has increased by more than a third; well above the national average.
In rural areas, transport links are often poor along with broadband connection, leading to people becoming very isolated. Our record over the last six years demonstrates that the service is very much needed, while the experience and track record of our communities demonstrate very well, what can be done to build social opportunities and activities when there is good facilitation and support available.
The North Somerset Team recently engaged with community groups to find out how they feel about being of older age in our area. Click here to read their views.
